Surface Design
One of my passions is surface design. I am obsessed with our obsession with labels and have incorporated them into my all of my designs to encourage people to become more aware of their labels and meanings. These mosaics of labels and their instructions are currently expressed in four designs: Handle With Care (stitched), Handle With Care, Made In and Delicates which are all printed onto Organic Hemp Cotton Canvas all of these can be bought by the metre.
Handle With Care is a unique surface design that encourages us to handle our environment with care. It is available as a surface of sewn labels and it has also been printed onto Organic Hemp Cotton Canvas with additional hand blocked, machine and hand embroidery details. The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art has purchased many canvases of this limited edition print.
Made In and Delicates and have been printed onto Organic cotton canvas but can be printed onto other textiles and paper so should you want them in different textiles or colours, this can be arranged.

Lectures
I have been lecturing on Ethical Design for the past two years and am presently the Assistant Course Director on the Business Start Up course at the London Institute. I currently lecture on Ethical Design and Consumption and Trend Forecasting within the course.

Workshops
What
Imitating nature’s eco-systems, I explore the notion of waste as a resource, of the discarded evolving into something both functional and precious once again. I offer children and adults a chance to experience workshops that explore creativity with an ethical edge, making the process both fun and meaningful. We’ll address the need to consider the consequences of our creativity as well as consumption the responsibility this process involves in a fun way!
Who
Bridget West has a degree in Drama (Theatre Arts) from South Africa and another in Art and Design from Central Saint Martins. She has been teaching, lecturing and running workshops for 12 years. References and images of the finished products are available upon request.
