Pleased to meet you
Pieces of You, like me, was born out of Africa. A few years ago I returned home to visit my family, who live in the middle of beautiful Nowhere. While photographing the stunningness that is home, I realised how important the natural world has become to me and how little of it there is in London. In that moment I decided that as both designer and teacher/lecturer, I have to ensure that whatever I put out there, takes nature into account.
In terms of design opting for ethical is oftentimes more difficult and always more pricey; it's cheaper to mess up the environment and that's the bottom line. To encourage consumers to shop ethically and to read their labels I use recycled and ethically sound textiles to make contemporary homeware.
I also spread the word by running eco-workshops with children and adults encouraging them to "Make little changes that will make a big difference". On a more academic level, I lecture on ethical design and consumption in and around colleges in London and am always open to offering consultations and ethical advice.
I have made it my personal mission to try and encourage all I meet to preserve the space around us, which is after all, a PIECE OF YOU.
